Late night comes to prime time
I've heard from two separate sources in the last hour that NBC is not letting Jay Leno go. He's scheduled to hand over The Tonight Show over to Conan O'Brien this summer and has been fairly public about his displeasure at being deposed. Current reports now have Jay going on at 10pm every night. Yes, every night. As in, NBC is planning on doing only two hours of prime time per night and putting Jay on for the third hour of prime time. I guess this will solve the problem that NBC can't seem to put a show on at 10:00 that lasts longer than a few weeks. If I recall correctly, NBC also said it was planning on turning the 8:00 hour in to all reality shows because they were cheaper. If they follow through with that they'll only be producing one hour of scripted programming per night. Add to that the bloodbath reorganization currently going on there and you've got to start wondering if NBC is long for this world.
Personally, I can't stand the guy and I don't understand how he can beat Letterman every single night. So that's one hour of TV per night where I know I won't be.
The Jimmy Fallon as Conan in training experiment starts tonight with Jimmy doing web shows as warm up for taking over for Conan in a few months.
Another rumor I've heard is that the iTunes store is going to do away with DRM tomorrow. That would be cool. I'll believe it when I see it.
Wolf Blitzer has re-upped with CNN but is giving up his Sunday night show. You can't really blame him, he's doing 17 hours of TV a week right now.
Big BSG catch up video here. Only the last five minutes are new, but it's worth watching.
I'm trying to stay away from the economic news, but sometimes it bleeds over. The Tribune Company has filed for bankruptcy. In addition to The Chicago Tribune, and the L.A. Times, they also own the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs were already up for sale, and the owners were being picky about who they were going to sell to, but now their hands might be forced. This could get interesting/ugly.
The series finale of Boston Legal is tonight. I've never watched it, but I know some of you do.
David Gregory is officially taking over Meet The Press moderator duties for the late Tim Russert.
